You’ve heard the stories. A suspect gets called in, says they’re innocent… and walks out in handcuffs. But in this case, the detectives didn’t threaten prison time. They threatened his dog. And within hours, a 21-year-old man signed a confession to killing his father—who wasn’t even dead. I’m Jeff Hampton, the People’s Lawyer, and in this episode, I’m breaking down:
1. How this happened to Thomas—step-by-step—and
2. The interrogation tricks cops used and the exact steps you can take to shut them down before they get started.

During traffic stops, cops love to ask “You don’t mind if I take a quick look?” But here’s what most people don’t realize — if you say “yes”… or even “no”… that might be enough for cops to legally search you and your car. In this episode, I’ll show you:
1. The “consent traps” cops love to use to get in your car,
2. How to spot these trick questions in advance, and
3. A word-for-word script you can screenshot or memorize — so if this ever happens to you, you know exactly what to say.

Imagine you’re relaxing at home when—out of nowhere—police start pounding on your door, demanding to come inside for a "welfare check." Before you can even respond, they kick down your door and detain you. Why? Because a neighbor made a baseless claim, and officers used a legal loophole to justify invading your home. This isn’t a rare case—it happens more than you think. And if it happens to you, do you know your rights?
In this episode, I am breaking down the true story of when cops take it too far with welfare checks and the community caretaking function and what YOU can do to protect yourself and get justice if police try this on you!

You installed a dash camera to protect yourself, but what if the footage that should keep you safe is actually manipulated and used against you? More and more drivers are getting dash cams to avoid false accusations from police, road-ragers, or scammers—but many have no idea how quickly that same footage can flip against them.
If you don’t know exactly when to share it, what to delete, and how the law can use it against you, you could find yourself being tricked by cops to use your dashcam footage against you. If you stick around till the end, I’ll share one unbelievable moment where dash cam footage nearly ruined a driver's life—and exactly how they managed to flip it back in their favor.
In this episode, I’m breaking down:
1. The Con's of using a dash camera and how you can put yourself at risk when doing so,
2. The Pro's of using a dash camera to stop cops and hold them accountable, and
3. The legal rules you MUST know when recording police and whether you must keep the recordings or face criminal charges when cops don't like you recording them. LAWYER: Is a Dash Cam Really Worth It?

Right now, in American cities, police can track you by facial recognition… without a warrant, without your consent, and sometimes in open defiance of local law. In this episode, I will show you:
1. How cops are using facial recognition software to track you,
2. What the Constitution has to say about all of this and – crucially –
3. The tools that actually work to beat facial recognition. In this video, I’m testing everything from reflective hats to IR-blocking glasses

You see a flyer from your local police department. Friendly colors. A badge. A QR code that says, "Free House Checks While You're on Vacation." Seems helpful, right?
But what if scanning that code meant giving police access to your home, your cameras, your data — and your legal rights? What if it opened the door to a kind of surveillance you didn’t even know you’d agreed to?
Here’s what makes this more urgent: police departments across the country are doing this right now. In this episode, I’m breaking down:
1. Exactly how these QR Code Community Programs work,
2. What you might be unknowingly agreeing to when you scan these QR Codes, and
3. Why even well-intentioned sign-ups can turn into constitutional nightmares that cost you your privacy and freedom.

You’re pulled over with a legal gun, a clean record AND you do everything you were required to do under your state’s laws — BUT ten minutes later, you’re standing in handcuffs while a cop digs through your trunk and destroys the inside of your car. Most gun owners have no idea that saying or doing the wrong thing in this situation can be used by cops to justify a full vehicle search.
In this episode, we’re going to walk through:
1. How courts really see stops, handcuffs, and car searches when you’re armed
2. When an officer can legally cuff you “for safety” — but still hasn’t technically arrested you
3. How to make sure telling an officer “I have a gun” doesn’t automatically give police the right to search your car
And at the very end, I’ll give you the exact sentence — just a few words — that can stop a search before it starts AND destroy an officer’s qualified immunity so that you can hold them accountable if they take it too far.

Your nosey neighbor hears noise they don’t like and they think it's coming from your house so they call the cops and make a noise complaint. The cops show up at your house and see your garage door wide open. Can they walk in and start looking around? In this episode, I am breaking down 2 issues:
1. Can cops force open your garage and look around OR can they walk into your open garage just because a Karen neighbor makes a noise complaint and
2. What if you have a detached garage? Does that change what cops can do? Stick around because knowing your rights and exercising them the RIGHT way can be the ultimate tool to stop cops from searching your garage.

Imagine you’re sitting in your car during a break – engine running, air conditioner on, not breaking any laws – when an officer approaches because a passerby reported you as “suspicious.” The officer asks for your ID or driver’s license even though you haven’t committed any traffic violation or crime. Do you have to hand over your ID just because you “look suspicious”? In this episode I’m breaking down:
1. Whether cops can demand your ID and force you out of the car purely because you look suspicious,
2. The legal standards cops must follow AND
3. The exact words you can use to stop cops when they profile you and violate your rights when they claim you “look suspicious”
